I read YOUR BOOK

The early 2025 tariff moves follow well-known Trump negotiation tactics. Anyone familiar with The Art of the Deal (published in 1987) shouldn’t be surprised. Five key principles stand out:

1. Leverage—Tariffs are a tool for forcing countries to the table or extracting better terms. Trump sees leverage as essential.

2. Start Big, Then Settle – Ask for more than you expect. Steep initial tariffs set the stage for negotiated concessions.

3. Be Unpredictable – Sudden tariff threats create uncertainty. Trump uses unpredictability to keep opponents off balance.

4. Apply Pressure – Tariffs apply economic pressure. It’s classic Trump: squeeze until the other side gives in.

5. Control the Narrative – Trump frames tariffs as defending fairness and American interests. It’s about shaping perception.

His strategy hasn’t changed—just the scale. From real estate deals in New York to trade wars on the world stage, he’s playing the same game. World leaders would be wise to read the playbook.
